    ... a mountain at each end and a small lower are in between where the population lived. We could see there many buildings, no doubt including hotels, apartments and a business / commercial area. It was the Isle of Capri.

    ... from the tourist information centre....

    Gallopili was an island fortress, with only a bridge link to the mainland. The castle was currently not open. However, we enjoyed walking around the walls, hanging onto hat and sunglasses so as not to have them blown away, retreating to the narrow streets when we needed a breather.

    ... coast guard buildings to the forefront at the seaward side of the cliffs. From the top of the waterfall, ???? steps up, there was a great view of the harbour. Some work was being done on the sea wall, with artifical rocks in the shape of "jacks" scattered in front of the wall to break the motion of the waves.

    Still windy, but given the location, not totally unexpected.

    Va bene ragazzi ... all those not interested in golf can skip this entry. But for those who enjoy belting the little white ball around, especially in foreign places, read on.

    Tuesday was a really nice sunny day so we set off in the morning for Acaya Golf Club which is about 12k from Lecce, towards the Adriatic Coast. Golf in Italy is still very much an elite sport, with the first indication that the course is found down a little ...

    ... for less than €12 a night. To top it all, we walk alone through olive groves for an hour without leaving the site.

    It's not grim up north.

    The weather prediction further north to Foggia and beyond to Tuscany is for full sun with temperatures rising to the mid-twenties. I think we are going to enjoy our long meandering journey home.
