We spent today at Nagasaki. It is, of course, best known to us as one of the two Japanese cities hit with atomic bombs at the end of WWII. Historically it has been an international trading and ship building area for Japan. Because there were so many foreigners (mostly Portuguese, Dutch, and Chinese) in and out of the city over centuries it has been and still is the area in Japan with one of the largest concentration of Christians. ...

Now, back to Japan, with a longer blog more worthy of this city. I actually got a complaint about one my blogs being too short and not descriptive enough! We are also using it to translate when needed and get us to locations. Google maps and directions is just awesome! Here are some pictures For more info please google ...

Nagasaki ,Japan. Such a highlight for us today to come to Japan, long awaited. On a very calm morning we came quietly into Nagasaki, past the huge shipyards of Mitsubishi, with many ships in progress, huge Cruise Liners, and very imposing Gas Tankers, and much more. A very sheltered harbour and our berth right in the city, park land surrounds. We both had tours today, we were looking forward to ,Sam to the Shipyard, and me to Arita , an ancient town in the ...

... we hopped onto a bus that took us to the starting point of our boat ride along the network of canals that flow through the city. It was a beautiful sunny day - perfect! There were about a dozen of us that filled the river boat called "donko bune" and we set off on a quiet peaceful journey along a very picturesque route. The boat was propelled by a man in traditional dress using a long bamboo pole. Our "driver" kept up a steady dialogue in ...
