We are now approaching the Saxon "Switzerland" on the border with the Czech Republic. This is mining country and reminds me if the Colorado mining area. Silver and a bunch of rare earth metals were hauled out of this region until the mines died. The towns south and east of Zwichau are deep in the hills and now create the most incredible wood carved items and handmade lace. Gorgeous country as usual :) Zwichau is also known for the cars produced by the Horch factory - Audi ...

... to Bryan I should get the girls to pick me up. He said not a good idea as we were the furthest point from them, so in other words harden up :) I'm glad I did as the descent from Pordoi was stunning and involved 36 hairpin turns! It gave me a chance to recover and make the next ascent to passo Campolongo which was only a 3km climb. After our descent we hit a rain storm and stopped for lunch in xx. It had fined up a bit so we set off on our final climb - up ...

... there is still a very noticeable one, despite 25 years have passed sine!
Factories, large and smaller ones are unused, windows smashed, lots of houses with broken facades, and so on... When arriving in Zwickau, there were compare to before, hardly any people around, and Zwickau is not a little village.
The struggle to find a place to sleep, the empty streets and the starting rain, did not help my moral.
The next morning things looked a bit rosier again, I ...
