... availability but I am not sure how to tap into it. I am told that nothing under $150/night is available. At the tourist office, they give me a list of Pensiones and Hostals. Each one I call has availability although they are price gauging. I finally get one for $35/night for a single room. It is in a great location in the town of Ibiza but very dated (although reasonably clean). I had called but when I show up ...

Another Bay in Ibiza

... would be protected, but was only a 4 hour sail away and didn't want to arrive there in the dark. Pete and Tom pulled up the anchor and Tom went back to bed while Pete sailed around the island and up to Ibiza to the sheltered bay. We arrived at around 7am and tucked into the small bay with wind howling over the headland. We stayed here for a day, with the plan to head across to Mallorca tomorrow.

Road to Granada

... I really need to know where they end because nothing can go on for ever like that. I drove listening to the radio playing lazy flamenco music, the type that invites you to fall in love with a Spanish country girl. I lost myself in these olive trees, and though the lyrics made no sense to me, I could hear the anguish and passion in the melody. My lonely planet says the roots of flamenco lie in the songs of the gypsies, who traveled ...

Cordoba - Cabra 74 km

... out to be pretty bad. I had an old half pint of Guiness and a stale pizza, Kim and Dad had hamburgers made out of ham not beef. But afterwards we walked around the Moorish sector of town, got some churros and chocolate and searched for an interent cafe. Then we went up to the Alhambra that overlooks the city and took an hour long tour. Alhambra is a fotress, palace, and ancient city dating ...

Great gooby gobby RAINDROPS!

And when it comes, it comes down HARD. Big gobby raindrops, the kind that normally precede tornadoes, bouncing five or six centimetres off the surface of the road. Thank God it's Saturday and there's not much traffic on the roads. Thank God I put on every slightly waterproof garment that I own and am more or less dry in the parts that ...

NOT cycling to Granada

... days in Granada, having some wonderful food (thanks, Pilar!), seeing the Alhambra, and generally enjoying Granada. There are lots of tourists, students, travellers, and general hippy type people in Granada and it has a really nice relaxed feeling about it. It's much cooler than the coast, but still very sunny and has the amazing backdrop of the Sierra Nevada and the ...

The Best of Spain

... I awoke, showered and stepped out on the town. First thing I did was take a bus to a viewing point of the Alhambra in Sacramonte, a community traditionally inhabited by gypsies on the hillside opposite the ancient fortress. I got some great snaps as th elight was just about perfect then. After that I caught a bus back down the hill into town and wandered around a little bit to get my bearings. I went looking for this place called Granada Diez that Colleen recommended I check out ...

Granada Pictures...Finally

... escaped being blown up! And finally in 1870 it was declared a national monument and was protected and restored. Of course then there is all the juicy history such as the sultan catching his harem favorite with the enemy in the garden, and later murdering that entire noble family in another part of the palace etc etc... The eclectism of Alahambra is much like most of Spain, the artistic result from the rise and fall of different ...

Cordoba

... where the Virgen de Guadalupe was located in this immense and dark place that must be the size of Santana Row!! Seriously, this place make the King's castle look like a shed next door!! Yes, Cordoba is a special place indeed, at least for me. I had a fantastic dinner of Garbanzo bean soup and white asparagus at a restaurant with a beautiful patio. I wanted to take pictures (cheesy American tourist!) but the waiter gave me a postcard instead.
