On our adventures on Bornholm we first took a bus to Hammershus castle, on the northwestern side of the island. Hammershus was once a main point of control in power over the Baltic Sea. The castle was built in the 1200s and is very defensible. The curved rocky drive makes the attack harder (especially as you would have to go up a cliff if you were not to take the drive).

A Grumpy Skipper
... wasn’t a whole lot to see. At one point, Hasle was an important fishing port and it does have quite substantial quays and docks but now it has a forlorn air about it and we really didn’t want to stay, despite the convenience of the loos and the good wifi. We did find a nice church which had an impressive altar (see photos) but that was pretty much it. So we decided to have lunch and then go, as the wind was now beginning to increase.
