Macocha Caves

... of treasures, some lit by fairy lights, some filled with mirror still lakes.

Eventually the cavern opened out into a large chasm-like mouth. We were at the bottom of the Macocha Abyss. A stream flowed through the rare habitat of the ravine floor. We stared upwards at the impossibly high sides, towering above us.

Czech legend tells of Macocha, the evil step-mother, who threw her ...

The Goat's Demise

There was time to kill before our tour of the cave. There are a number of caves in the area with different attributes. One has fine stalagnates, another a collection of cave bear skeletons and a third some evidence of habitation. I would like to see them all, one day, but I could imagine the youngest kids' response to more than one cave viewing in a day.

Instead we went to a small windmill in Rudice, which served as a tiny museum. It was pleasing to the eye from the ...

You Are Almost as Friendly as the Czech People

... She told me this is because her father was once a member of the former revolutionary army of Ukraine (UPA) and he refused to allow his family to speak Russian in the home. Her father also forced her to attend the same Ukrainian youth association that I am part of (CYM), something which she found quite amusing. She could never imagine people in America having pride in their ethnic and racial pasts, and promised to tell ...

Back Home in Brno

... then come back with the receipt to get my boarding pass. As I walked up to the other desk, I noticed there were 3 spanish women getting into it a bit with the attendant at computer next to my guy. No sooner do I hand him my credit card do they begin to YELL- and I mean yell like you would upon discovering infidelity or the upmost of crime- at the attendant in fast, angry Spanish. So it's 6 in the morning. I am tired. I am ****** off slightly. And now my ears are beginning ...

Days 41-42

Day 41 - I took the bus to Ceske Budejovice with Justin and Kelley. There I had to say goodbye to them as we were going to opposite directions... (Those guys were really nice! I missed them on the rest of my trip). From Ceske Budejovice I took a bus to Brno to meet my friend Ondrej, whom I hadn't seen for about 4 years. - After 6 hours inside a very uncomfortable bus I finally got to ...

So far so good

... they were saying. The church was baroque style with flying buttresses and so many angel statues that you never looked at the same one. I was the most beautiful church I'd ever seen. After that we went sight seeing and went to a park which claims to have marked the "Center of the Universe". Something about some university professor was trying to find the center of universe, and calculated that it was in Europe, then in Czech Republic, then in Brno, and then in ...

... pretty sweet. I wanted a jersey but they're expensive and I'm not sure I would really wear it. But I think I'll buy it anyway. Better safe than sorry. Haha. I'm really looking forward to this weekend: the festival,Ostrava, and Trnava. I just wish I didn't leave my charger in Domazlice so I could charge my iPod for the train ride and upload some photos. Ugh. Well it's crazy to think a week from today it'll all be over and I'll be on my way home. Man. I ...

Modre

Okay so I skipped a day in hopes that a lot amazing things would transpire during the break. Uhhh, didn't exactly happen like that. I am pretty much in a bad mood today. I wish I had more friends to write back home. Don't get me wrong, family, I love you guys and like hearing from you. I missed out on the Russian class this afternoon, it was optional. I was going to go to a lecture on Czech film ...

Katerinska and Punkava Caves

We left Prague for Brno by bus. From Brno we look a train to Blansko and then a cab to the caves. The caves were an amazing experience. The stalactites and stalagmites. Its a wonder that defies the gravitational laws and calcium deposits are seen depositing from the ground to the ceiling (i beleive they are called stalegmite). At the rear end of the caves was a opening and an excellent view to the Macocha Abyss then a short boat ride takes you to thru the Punkava river. An experience to live.
