... and packing away - no hot shower that morning. Our early start meant that we were pulling alongside reception at our next campsite, Quinta Chave Grande, to the north of Satao at lunchtime. ... to walk up the 600+ stairs to the church for penance, we did not see the need for that so we took the bus up and walked down. I feel just as rewarded.
After lunch back at the Isabel, we were bussed to the Palace of Mateus, yes the maker of Mateus Rosé that we knew from long ago. It is still family owned. We toured the palace and the gardens, many are topiary.
Back on the bus to Quinta da Avessada vineyard for dinner high on a plateau at 600 metres. ...

... shank and last night pork tenderloin, all with tasty salads, soups and vegetables. Copius quantities of wine keep the conversation lively!

Today we visited the Quinta da Aveleda winery about 1/2 hour bus drive from the ship dock. It was formed in 1671 and is still owned and operated by the same family. After lunch we continued cruising through the Douro Valley toward Régua.

... with twisting roads on many levels. We get lost and Mrs. Merkel seems to have no idea where she is. We spend ages going round and round, get a fleeting view of the bridge in the distance and eventually get back on to the main road. We are staying at the Vidago Palace Hotel.
