... as once you get going it can get very hot. The spot he took us too had no one else around, hard to believe that in summer it is a golf course. It has about 3 m of snow coating it! We had some of the local trees and wildlife footprints pointed out along the way, mostly fox and rabbit but we saw weasel tracks as well. The actual walking is quite easy once you get the hang. Marina made us a delicious traditional breakfast of rice balls stuffed with seaweed and local plums plus a bowl of miso soup and some pickled vegetables and grasshopper. Yes you heard correct grasshopper! They are quite nice really in a exoskeletal kind of way. We had to get the Snow Monkey Express up to Yudanaka to then get a ...

... stops and pretty easy to navigate. Ueno station was huge and we finally found the right ticket office to get out pass from. After this we went and got some food to take on the train for lunch. There was a place which had lots of choices so we got a mix, some gyoza, some rice with beans and some yakkitori chicken skewers. It was all lovingly wrapped in tons of plastic for the bin! The train journey itself was lovely, nice comfy seats, great view of the snowy hills beyond. It ...
