A one night layover in Interlaken

After a long plane flight from Chicago and train ride from Zürich, we spent the night in Interlaken. We stayed at the Hotel Rugenpark a quaint hotel with excellent staff. This is the larger, more touristy foothills of the Jungfrau region. In the past it was an extremely popular and expensive resort community. It still can be quite pricey but it is no longer the home of the upper crust resorts. The attached pictures are shots from around the town.

Friday morning, I woke up early to go pick Justin up from the airport. It is soo good to have him here with me. I stopped at my favorite bakery beforehand to bring Justin some of the best pasteries ever, but he seems to be immune to the hefty dose of herion they put in their pasteries and didn't seem to enjoy them as much as I did but that's alright- more for me.

We went out to eat that night at a resturaunt were no one could speak English. We mainly communicated through hand gestures...

Everyday has been pretty much the same and pretty much awesome as hell. Justin and I will wake up when we feel like it, go downstairs, and gorge ourselves (well, myself at least) on an excellent Swiss breakfast of fresh bread, meats, cheeses, fruits, and cereal provided by the B & B. Then we'll mosey over to the grocery store a 1 1/2 blocks away and get food for supper as the grocery store (and most stores) close at 6:30pm. Next we'll head down to the train/bus station and miss the first ...

The best hotel I have ever stayed at

When I arrived in Interlaken I had been on trains all day. I was exhausted and didn't have resevations anywhere. As soon as I got in the door I was greeted so kindly and made welcome by the amazingly freindly and helpful staff. Chris and Ursula didn't just make my stay there comfortable - they made sure I had all the info and support to make the most of the 4 nights I stayed. I loved it and will defintely be back. They deserve an award for service - some of the most friendly and easy going people I have ever met. Thanks guys - You helped make Interlaken the hilight of my european adventure. I will never forget Parasailing over the town - Awesome!

If you are going to switzerland, I couldn't think of a better place to stay. Not fancy rooms, but top service and great breakfasts, all adventure sports and simple day to day things can be organised from the hotel. Just perfect for the first timer in Swizterland. You won't regret it!

The Hotel was the best place that I have ever had the privilage to stay in. The level of service that was provided was of the absolute highest quality and the owners really made me feel at home during my stay in Interlaken.

I want to thank the Chirs and Ursula for the best hospitality I could have asked for. They really made my trip to Interlaken worthwhile.

The Hotel Rugenpark in Interlaken was our favorite hotel in our European holiday! The hospitality given by the young owners and their friendliness was 5-star. They took time to talk and play with our children out in the garden and made our family really feel welcome and at home. The Rugenpark was very clean and there were many beautiful flowers and plants everywhere. Our room was spacious with a balcony facing the Jungfraujoch. We travelled and stayed in many different budget hotels and none could match how excellently we were treated here! We recommend it highly.

I've stayed at the Hotel Rugenpark numerous timessince 1985, and it has always been a wonderfullexperience! Great location, close to the rail station and stores. Always very friendly people there; great for adviceon things to do and places to go! It might not be the fanciest hotel in town, but it's the nicest one tostay at!

Excellent cheap accommodation in Interlaken

Excellent and friendly service from the young owners made our stay very memorable. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. The rooms were cozy and we really liked the beautiful hard-wood floors. The price was a bargain and we will definitely be back.

Excellent budget hotel in Interlakenn

Great value for those on travelling on a budget. Really nice welcome from the owners and friendly service. Our room was very cozy with beautiful hard-wood floors and super mountain views from the balcony.

The breakfast was buffet style and huge compared to the tiny continental breakfasts we had in most of the other budget hotels we stayed in. We were very pleased and highly recommend it.

Great One-Star Hotel in Interlaken

Great choice for Interlaken. I stayed one night in a hostel with 20 other travellers and then went looking for a cheap but quieter alternative. I found the Hotel Rugenpark and what a difference! I had a TV in the room and the price was not much higher than in the other hostel I stayed in. The owners were super friendly and really great hosts. They know the area very well and helped me book a paragliding flight which was fantastic! I will definitely be back!

WONDERFUL hOTEL

We found this hotel back in 1989 and have stayed many times since then.

In fact we try and visit at least once or twice a year. The Hotel is listed under Budget hotels and therefore may not appeal to all, but we have allways enjoyed this very friendly, family run hotel and look forward to our next visit. It is near Interlaken West station and many rooms have a view of the mountains.

If you are looking for a better than average family hotel this is it. The family proprietors do all they can to make you welcome, and the standard of comfort in a traditional "old" Swiss style is excellent. After 4 visits we have always enjoyed our stay at a very reasonable cost.
