**Thursday, July 13** Today was a normal day, we headed to class, I came back and ate lunch, and then we went to the Zocalo. Today, our activity we went to a theater. It was really cool, and we got to go back stage, and we sat in the special rooms. After this, we headed to an open-air shop, where they sell all kinds of random "pack-rat" type things …

Weekend in Veracruz

... on hold now for a few weeks as we have the next lot of “partials” coming up. But I think the idea is to escape the weekend they finish which will be at the end of the month. There is a lovely looking place next to Acapulco but it seems quite hard to find decent hotels there so we may end up in Acapulco…..not ideal but as it is just a weekend escape I guess I will cope! ...

My hard work the day before ensured a morning free of appointments. One of Veracruz's bigger attractions is its aquarium, reputedly the largest in Latin America. Of course I had to see it. Acuario di Veracruz had a booth at the exhibition and I had gotten instructions how to get there by public bus. Just look for the buses with the sign Boca del Rio I was told.

So after another big breakfast in a largely empty dining hall I crossed the overhead pedestrian ...

Lunch was in an adjacent venue partitioned off for that purpose. I must say the World Trade Centre of Boca del Rio, Veracruz, is really impressive for its columnless space and design. We were not spare presentations during lunch, which took really long between courses. I guess the caterer had difficulty with staffing or managing a function of this magnitude. Whatever time we made up in the morning, we lost ...

... their work and the importance of the island as a natural lab. 2 troops of howler monkeys were introduced in 1988-9 from the mainland, to protect them from poachers and hunters. At their peak, they numbered 100, and have now stabilized at 75. The island can probably accommodate more but there had to be sufficient food source, which is why we saw human intervention in propagation of trees.

We hiked up one of the small hills, not high or clear enough ...
