... scenery. The waterway ended a few kilometers short of Kottayam, so we took a local bus into towm so we could have a look around and have some lunch. Kottayam is not an enthralling place itself so, after lunch, we took the bus back to Alleppey (a rather more fraught means of transport than the ferry!).

Day 3: Alleppey itself is busy, hot and unattractive apart from the area by the canal from which the ferry and pleasure boats depart. We braved the heat ...

... The food is good and the people are great and the atmosphere is poles apart from our last stop in Goa. We opted to spend the second day on a canoe rather than a houseboat. (Firstly because it is serene, peaceful and gains access to the narrow waterways too small for the giant tourist boats, and secondly because it is much cheaper and I am as tight as a ducks butt these days). As soon as you sit back on the gondola-like boat you immerse yourself ...

... spite of the infuriating process to actually get back to DeIhi I must say it turned out to be a real overnight treat - never considered the Holiday Inn chain as ‘luxury’ but this hotel actually was - we couldn’t believe our luck and wished we could have stayed longer. ... and enjoyed cheap and clean accommodation at the YHA - 1.20 a night and 35p for dinner. Compared to many other Indian cities, Mysore is like a breath of fresh air (quite literally): clean streets, road names, and buses that have real numbers on them - what more could you ask? It's also where I had the best samosa I have ever tasted (and I've had a few). Best ever.

... it is. The WiFi at Cherukara nest is not working, so I can't check to see if the email that I had tried to send to Aki, has gone. This means that we are waiting for a rickshaw, but we don't even know if it has been sent. Tony John had not gotten round to paying his internet bill...that was why it wasn't working! So he finds Ali's number and calls him. Our rickshaw eventually arrives and we relocate to the peace and tranquility of Secret beach.
