... expected to see the Zahir Mosque

The outside of the Royal Palace was visible with large yellow columns similar to ones in Indonesia I had seen. I was almost going to cross the road to the Mosque when I saw someone coming out a side pathway.

Fortunately the back of the bus had single seating and I was able to doze for part of the 90min trip.

We arrived at 2pm and there was no information counter on where to take the local bus and places seemed shut again for the holiday.

... What was my surprise when they didn’t want to let me in the plane for a problem in my passport! Guys, every time you travel from country to country, do make sure your passport is stamped TWICE after crossing a border, once by the country you are leaving and once by the country you are entering! It happened that, even though I had gotten my Thai visa in advance since I was in Malaysia, I went pass the border without noticing to stop in Thai immigration ...

... thought we’d get to the mainland and be one step closer to our next jungle trekking adventures in the Cameron Highlands.

Getting off the second ferry at Kuala Perlis we were greeted by a Premier Inn-style hotel and a KFC, both right opposite the dock. We checked in to one and then went to eat at the other!

The extra ferry and the extravagant tea meant that we were a little over budget for the day, but who cares?! We’ll make it up ...

Yes, a new hat for my collection. This bloke was making the Suharto/Sukarno hats.

After Pinang it was quite a novelty to see so many head-scarves and full cover up.
