... mountains with big eyes and a smiling mouth. My greatest regret of the day is that I didn't get my camera out in time to take a snap!  Once I got to Kawaguchiko I caught a taxi to my hotel. When I had booked the hotel online I saw lots of reviews with words like "fantastic views" and "great service". So I booked it. No brainer, right? When we were driving up the driveway I noticed that the sign for my hotel also said "romantic resort". I immediately ...

Today we are travelled to Hakone by speed train. We had been saving our JR pass for the longer transits from Tokyo to Hakone and Hakone to Kyoto, only to find out that we could not use our JR pass all the way to Hakone, even though this was a little disappointing, we soon got over this frustration as the train fare was minimal and time difference only half an hour. The train trip we did have was very ...

We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...

... see Mount Fuji in the distance but the weather had closed in further at this point so no such luck. We did have a nice boat ride through the heart of Hakone though and we managed to see a couple of Torii gates on the banks amongst the colourful autumn foliage. The coach then took us back to the hotel at the end of what was quite a disappointing day. I expect it would have been beautiful under different circumstances but today the odds were certainly not in our ...

... sky's and fuji not blocked by any other mountains in the way(see pictures). Like the monkey park it was definitely worth the extra effort to get there and it is clear to see why the Japanese place such cultural and even spiritual importance on Fuji as it is so aesthetically pleasing and absolutely dwarfs everything around it. I'm off to Nagoya tomorrow as I head more into western ...
