Back to Oirase for some real fall color

I did make it to my normal trail head, but the trail was a muddy mess. I started up the trail about a quarter mile and decided my hiking boots were going to be swamped if I kept going, so I opted for a second attempt at the fall colors of Oirase Gorge.

Fall Colors.......sort of
... the signs of fall in Japan - farmers harvesting rice and in many cases manually arranging the stalks to dry. Northern Japan is still a very rural agricultural area where many farmers still do much of their work by hand. It is amazing seeing a half-dozen people, often women, out working in a field planting or harvesting something by hand.

... turn. Fall has come late this year. Normally, by this time of year the mountains would be bright shades of red and gold, but it seems summer held on so long that the leaves are behind schedule. ....I don't mind. This time of year the weather is wonderful.

Volcanic Hike
... the only groups I came across today were 2-3 people. The trail is rather narrow, so passing or being passed by other hikers can be problematic if there are large groups.
I headed out and after about a mile I realized I'd left my water in the car :o( ......I do need to get my head screwed on straight. But, being me, I kept hiking! No way ...
