    ... either. So that was a failure. Dinner in the hotel again. As it is an Onsen, it is full of Japanese and we are the only foreigners. The Japanese go to the Onsen and then come to dinner dressed in their Yukata plus a blue jacket that goes with it. They don't have pre-dinner drinks.     ... in a shop front, amazing French bread and pastry shop, and all sorts of specialist crafts such as custom made chopsticks. The streetscaping is also beautifully done. Best of all it was not crowded. The temple area was worth a look. I did the cleansing ritual again, burnt incense and rubbed the Buddha to try and find a miracle cure for my upper respiratory infection. Anything is worth trying at this stage!     ... of the restaurant.

    Entering the restaurant, I was struck by how refined and elegant it was but not in an ostentatious way. It was not busy and I was led to a table by the window. When I sat down, I was awestruck, the view was astounding. I've not been to winery restaurants in Napa Valley or the Okanagan so I can't compare but this one looked out onto the rice fields and villages below, into the valley beyond and then out at the mountains topped ...

    ... tub or having fun with the lady monkeys, it would be a no-brainer.

    It was a little over 20 km from the train station to get to Yudanaka and the snow monkeys and I took a route that ran up by the side of the mountain and through fields of fruit trees. The view of the valley below and the mountains rising sharply above it was gorgeous.
