... A helpful woman explained that it was a sake tasting festival- you bought a sake cup then could taste as many sakes as you wanted from local producers from 12.30 - 4.30pm. There must have been around 50 sakes on offer! We bought a variety of food - we have no idea what some of it was- some was great - others very weird. We tasted quite a few interesting sakes (also no idea what they were!). Nia fancied trying the sweet baked fish - sort of waffle mixture in a fish shape with a ...

... There are still hundreds of people here, and we take a few hours to see the temples. Now as its a nice sunny day, we walk the streets for a few hours discovering lots of cool little lanes and shops. Nagano is a really nice town, spotlessly clean and full of extremely polite people.
Tomorrow we are taking the Shinkensan to a town called Kanazawa, on the west coast of Japan. My only concern is the weather, i think we are in for some rainy days

... as a glass house when the sun is out.

Hattoji used to be and is still home to a complex of Buddhist temples dedicated to a branch which valued the importance of the mountains. Walking around the area you can be forgiven for getting lost in the breathtaking views and stopping to admire the many miniature shrines dotted around for the avid explorer to find.

Another boon for this location is that for 2 of my three days here I was by myself. It ...
