... that was only discovered recently. It was part of the Yorkshire offensive and is currently being restored. We then stopped at a place called Essex Farm. It is the exact location that John McCrae wrote In Flanders Fields. It was in a series of bunkers that were used by the Canadian troops as a hospital. The bunkers have been restored along with a memorial cemetery. At Ypres itself there is a ...

Today we followed Tony (our coach) and Daryl the shortcut way to the club on our bikes. We went out for our 2nd training session. The wind was a bit lighter, we would go upwind for 5 minutes and it would take 25 minutes to get back to the line. This is because of the currents here. The coaches are trying to work out a pattern so when the racing starts we will know some more about the water ...

... walking amongst graves by the thousands. Reading the stories of young men experiencing the most horrendous of conditions and being killed by the thousands in a war of inches was horrifying. Whilst it is easy to say they died for so little in relation to land gained, I think at the time, they were fighting for reasons and beliefs held so strongly during their era. A tour enabled us to gain a more in depth look into the history here. Although, our best tour guide was a local bar ...
