We made it!

YES! We made it Germany. We got here at about 10 am local time, about 4am ET.

After waiting for over 10 hours in BWI and then a 7-hour flight with very little sleep, we were happy to be here but also exhausted. Unfortunately, there were no rooms at the lodging near the terminal. My choices were to wait here ...

... and a plate of whipped cream with chocolate sprinkles on it. The pot made three cups of hot chocolate. We walked back to the boat in time for lunch. During the afternoon we cruised the Rhine Gorge where we saw many castles on both sides. Some were ruins but some have been restored. Some are owned by the German Youth Hostel organization and are used for that purpose.
The narrowest and most ...

We stayed in a Castle.

... are exactly what you picture when you think of a little german town... I bet it´s beautiful here at Christmas. That afternoon, to stay dry, we did some wine tasting. They are famous for their Reisling here and have it in dry (trocken) half dry (halftrocken) and sweet (liebich... maybe). Bacharach has some really good wines.
The next morning the sun had come out so we decided to take a bike ride up to the next town, St. Goar. From there, we ...

Bingen and Rhine Cruise

... transportation barges and tourist boats. Almost all of the transportation barges carried a small car on their deck, although we weren't clear what its purpose was (drive around at the destination or drive back home?) It was also interesting to note that for much of the way, a railway line and road lined the river, sometimes on both sides. It seems as though this transportation route is a very well ...

Rhine River in Flames

... At every firework event about 50 large cruise boats shipping in thousands of spectators, and colorfully lit up with chains of lights from head to stern. Those who arrive by cruise boat also enjoy a dinner on the boat while gazing at the fireworks. Those who arrive by car, will have to first look for suitable parking space on the overcrowded river shore, if such can at all be obtained ...

... at heart. Im quite sure that he means no. But, perhaps due to the strange German time system, he came a knocking at my door at 2.30- now that, for those of you a little to tired to work it out- makes half an hour sleep for me. As it turned out we didnt leave until 5.30, after a few hours in the shower, a few litres of coffee, and a few plunges into the now 9 degree pool. And then we were off! After 7 exciting hours sitting next to my ...

Exploring the Motherland

... such an important place, but could not find any explanation. Next we found a farmer's market and wandered through it. Of course there lots of apples, since Frankfurt is known for it's apple wine along with other apple dishes. It began to rain when we stopped for lunch and after lunch and some more shopping, we returned to the hotel to dry off. We found another funny movie on tv, this one is called Kyaa Kool Hai Hum and is a Bollywood film with poor captions causing lots of phrases ...

Hotdog!

... t a lot of room left to have built anything else. After a late rise our day was taken up mainly by a cruise down the river which included lunch and some tea. We seem to have turned into very English people since leaving London, we seem to have withdrawal symptoms if we cant get tea every day. Very strange.
