Our new house, pt. 1

As most of you know by now, our house deal in Kusel (the 'little castle', of which I posted some photos) fell through. The landlord was the problem, not the house. For those of you who have seen the movie Il Postino, the landlord is reminiscent of the mother-in-law character. For those of you who haven't seen the film, the phrase 'forceful and argumentative to a fault' will suffice. After the third failed trip to the house to sign ...

So much furniture, so little money

... all so delicious I had to sample each one twice to finally decide. I could only buy one bottle at $8.50 a piece or I would have bought two or three of them. I decided on jalapeno sauce, which was a 6 out of 10 on the heat meter. The habanero was 10 out of 10 and it was actually pretty hot, but not 10-out-of-10 hot, I'd say. It did burn my tongue, though, and that takes some serious heat to do.

Anyway, on our way back to the car we decided to try the vendors' foods ...

... differences, but it might be just chronological; we haven't known each other for long. It may take some time to create a bond. My wife introduced us a little over a week ago and cutely skipped off for us to become acquainted. It takes a little convincing to get him to go along with the plans I make on any given day, but he inevitably acquiesces in my decree and comes along. This morning we took a trip together, which I'll write about in short order.

Days with Henry, Helga, and Frau Chatterbox, pt.1

... t like the act of learning on the job when it's something that could easily be €o$tly or dangerous.

Driving in Germany, I learn, is actually pretty similar to driving in the United States in many ways, but there are just enough differences (for example, right-of-way rules) to make it an undesirable experience, at first. A third and final reason I was somewhat dreading going to the Housing ...

Welcome to our new house in Kusel

Today Tracy took me to see the house we'll be moving into on Tuesday, Nov. 3. That was at the end of our day, though. The story actually begins the night before when DeAnna and her beau Andrew drove from their place in Mannheim to visit me and Tracy. It was late in the afternoon when they came to Baumholder, where Tracy and I are still at the Lagerhof Inn (i.e. transient housing): one small room with all our luggage, Dante, Punjabi, and Kahari. It is too crowded, and a little bit ...

... at heart. Im quite sure that he means no. But, perhaps due to the strange German time system, he came a knocking at my door at 2.30- now that, for those of you a little to tired to work it out- makes half an hour sleep for me. As it turned out we didnt leave until 5.30, after a few hours in the shower, a few litres of coffee, and a few plunges into the now 9 degree pool. And then we were off! After 7 exciting hours sitting next to my ...

Exploring the Motherland

My last trip for the semester was to Frankfurt, Germany with my friend Lauren to see Matt. Thursday afternoon we took a train to Stansted Airport and I prefer Stansted to Luton. Our flight was good and we got into Germany Thursday night. Since Frankfurt Hahn is not in Frankfurt (Frankfurt am Main is and is more expensive as a result) we took the Bohr bus into Frankfurt. As we drove in, Lauren and I agreed that Frankfurt looked like most metropolitan cities in the US and we felt like ...

Nearly there.

... and Andy had already gone to sleep - so we woke them up they were cool - but I had forgetten about our other roomie - a guy from Japan - man he didn't complain but we were pretty noisy - had the music going - well finally retired at 5.00 am. I had a 1.50 pm flight, woke up 8.30 am made it to the airport by midday - and then when I finally got on the plane was feeling very very average ...
