Lots of *vuelta* -- returns (or loops) --

First, we managed to find our way to a turn on La Vuelta, the Spanish bike tour, equivalent to the Tour de France, in Mora de Rubielos. (Don't be fooled, there's also a town called Rubielos de Mora a few kilometers away.) We arrived about 30 minutes before the action. A small crowd had already gathered. Soon the advance cars, police, and helicopters arrived. And then the bikers! They certainly don't care where you are ...

      It's been too long!

A travel blog entry by billiejago on Aug 27, 2014

Hello! It feels like I haven't written for a lifetime. Partly because I don't have internet in my apartment, so I type my blogs in a public internet cafe.. no excuse! The month of August has been challenging yet very good. This year has brought many changes to my life. Firstly, settling in one place for a longer period of time than I usually do. I love Valencia, and I am literally in awe of this city every single time I step out of my door, ...

... alongside the attractive sandy beach. Although there's a campsite near the hotel, we find ourselves in a very refined and elegant area of the resort. It is interesting to see villa after villa right on the promenade, dating from the early 1900s, well kept and restored, and without the graffiti that blights so many Spanish towns. We are a little taken aback at the lack of restaurants, but decide that this is because we are ...

... setting up on wooden stages in various places throughout the town. The one thing we have learnt from this Spanish fiesta is not to take too much notice of the scheduled start times for things; they generally start when they start! Also, not to get too concerned if it says Blues concert in Plaza de l'Estacion and you get there and guess what, it is heavy metal.....as long as you don't get hung up on the detail, there is a party atmosphere to be had here! So, ...

The alcohol was so cheap, the music so good, the company absolutely entertaining - having danced solid for about four hours, we headed back to the van at 2.30 am after the owners had to play "God Save the Queen" to get people to go home - hard to follow that with "Status Quo"!!!

Part 2 will follow next week after Paella Day, apparently the most important day in the Benicassim festive calendar......stay tuned!
