... Then up the funicular to the mountain overlooking Como, not happy with view at that height we decide to walk up to the lighthouse. Snow covered following last weeks cold blast we make our way up - a long way - finally arriving at 'the lighthouse'. The view was spectacular, well the view as best it can be here with quite dense haze/smog. We could see the water but sadly the Swiss Alps, whilst could be seen, were blurry. (Switzerland is ...

We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. I sat there for a while soaking up the sun, but I knew I had a lot of driving to do if I was going to make it to Pisa before dark. Still without a GPS but I had written names of cities and road numbers on a piece of paper as a reference.

    The Spirit of Locarno

... we witness various alpine car crashes, where presumably the Madonna del Sasso has saved the day. Rather eerily, there are several pictures showing folk climbing from their coffins, including infants. In total, it is a vigorous assault on the visual senses, for sure. I wonder what the Statesmen made of it all.
Astoundingly, the entire time we were there, a large and very loud middle-aged German tourist group were taking a mid morning snack on the large terrace ...
