PLATO NOT PROZAC, LITHUANIA NOT LITHIUM

... and August, even September, has plenty of that. You can get a RT LAX-Moscow for less than $700. The visa’s extra, cost and hassle. Living on the road may keep you free, but that doesn’t mean that it IS free… They say that men got buried with their horses here up until the 14th century. What more do you need to know? Stay tune

LATVIA IN PASSING

... borders and some USSR hangovers with Latvia and Russia. If the Baltic states in general chafed at the bit of Soviet domination, Estonia likely resented it most. Latvia and Lithuania have long shared histories with Russia and the other Slavic states, and are possibly even central to them all, us all, we Indo-European speakers, Baltic languages being closest, in order, to Slavic, Germanic, and Iranian, according to authoritative sources. Chew on that, Ahmejinedad.

New and very old

... of the exterior is matched on the interior. It it just amazing how beautiful these buildings are and how intricate some of the details of the facades are. I continued my walk using the "First Walk" tourist map as my guide up to Alberta Street.

WOW, for the lovers of architecture this is the street in Riga. Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Rococo, Baroque, it is all there and in some ...

Riga, the Old Town

... other one of which is the oldest brick construction in Riga. It is so cool because of their total difference in such a tight space. Right next door is St. Jacob's Church, where I was pleased to hear the organ being played, so i took a break there and enjoyed the coolness of the building and the great music being played.

The day was still young so I ventured out to explore part of the "First Walk", especially the Riga Dome, the Evangelical ...

Panevezys, August 24, 2005 - Wednesday

Right after the breakfast in the "Ambassador" hotel I left Vilnius. At the very end I saw once more that black-haired girl who was just arriving at work around the time when I was leaving and that was all. I shall never know what - and if at all - was going on between us. The moment I got in the taxi, everything became history. I was now on my way to Rîga and that was my immediate future. We had stop-overs on our way. And not only, as I had expected, on ...

A Day in Kaunas

Today I had a full schedule with the Klovas family, taking a tour of the Old City of Kaunas and seeing a man interested in the Bible and the United Church of God. Henrikas had some urgent business matters to take care of early in the day, so Vijole took me to the Old City, a part of Kaunas I had not seen before. It was very interesting. I reminded me somewhat of the Old Cities in Riga and Tallinn ...

Siavliai - hill of crosses

... which I thought was good of him especially as he had a long queue of people waiting to get on his bus. I knew I had the choice of three bus stops that all said my destination, they were next to each other which helped. The next driver let me on. He seemed to go directly but stopped at every little village and even in the middle of nowhere it seemed. It was a very bumpy ride. I still had views of mostly trees although the villages ...

The week that was

So here we go again another entry and more tales to tell. Ben and I had a great time last week in Poland. When we returned from Warsaw on the Sunday there was a good old Polish BBQ going on down at the river. So we got to meet some of Anna and Krzysztof's friends and do it all Polish style.. It was a classic, the sun was out, the fire was stoked, there was a BB rifle and some cans set up as targets (poor buggers never stood a chance with old quick draw Grant at the helm and firing from ...
