... the railway, roads and towns. Very interesting. He also had a visitor's book that we filled in. We couldn't imagine he lived there, but it was a strange place to have a cafe. From here there was a short climb up about 80m above the river through the forest and where there is active forestry being conducted, then on until we came back to farmland with the cows and their bells. Then down along the river into town. Plenty of evidence of past rockfalls or avalanches with ...

... other side where Hallstatt would appear. We found parking in a large public lot a little ways outside of the center of town, with a clearly designated walking path leading us right to the edge of the lake. Eventually left the farms behind and entered a steep sided valley with numerous tributaries coming in all round the main river. Rivers are ...

... very nice. Town is on a river, flowing with the most lovely clear water. Crossed over to look at the summer palace of the Habsburgs (of Česky Krümlov and Vienna fame) but there looked to be a photo shoot happening of the local fire brigade. Managed to get one photo in before they parked their trucks in front of the building. Even though the town is fairly small (about 13 000) it is easy to get disoriented as what look to ...

... where got on the cable car for the Mountain station at 2,060 meters.

On the way up the cable car we ran into a couple girls from Chicago who seemed a little clueless on where to go. They wanted to go to the ice caves, but had not even checked in to get a time for the caves. And now they were on the wrong cable car heading to 5 Fingers. They had apparently bought a ticket for 5 Fingers (since they couldn't have got on the cable car without the ticket), but didn't seem to ...
