... seemed to have too many rules and too many cars and too many tolls. So we settled on Bodensee. You (I) can't get everything right. The whole of Germany, a fair bit of Switzerland, and some of France seems to be on the edge of the enormous Titicaca-like lake that is Bodensee. Originally we had planned to stay in a town called Uberlingen but Uberlingen was full. Working our way down through the D31, everywhere was full. Bloody enormous campsites the size ...

The lake is fantastic with enough space for the hoards that were taking advantage of the weather. It has a huge wooden pirate ship for the kids to jump off and pontoons moored mid lake. It is clearly somewhere to bring the kids after school (just about the time we turned up!). What a great place.

Last Hike

... hotel - not a long hike but very pleasant. With rain just starting to fall when we got back, we decided not to go to the high ropes course that was on offer for the afternoon (it got rained out anyway). Later in the afternoon Bob did get a chance to go and visit the Biomass Water Heating facility that heated all the water for 21 properties in the valley. It was a 1 megawatt unit that used wood chips made of waste timber in the valley at a cost of 30 euros ...
