The Clam Farm!

We visited the giant clam farm and saw where the clams are raised. These clams are an endangered species in the wild, but because they are so beautiful they have a high demand for aquariums. This farm raises them and sells to the aquarium trade. They take decades to become large and are very hard to take care of.

When we are snorkling we often keep an eye out for them but rarely see them because they have a very small wild population.

Our trip to island paradise

... and tranquil waters. On the island there is very little buildings, just a few cabanas and a restroom. There is a nice swimming beach which had a great coral reef and a sunken airplane to dive on as well.

We were treated to an excellent meal of bar be que and other dishes. The food was great and complimented the surroundings. Overall we enjoyed our experience on the island and I would like to thank Mr. Kramer and his family again for their wonderful hospitality!!!

Extreme Snorkling!

Today we decided to go snorkling on the ocean side of Laura, which is the northern most tip of the island. The surf looked pretty rough but our local didving instructor assured us that the waves were "medium sized" and fine for us. We has to walk across the coral reef ( yikes!) to be able to get into the deeper ocean.

This proved to be difficult for a group of 20, and it took along time for all of us to get into the water. Basically we went one by one which ment that we were ...

My first few days on Majuro

... more about the change in coral communities. The reefs are gorgeous and have a large amount of fish life, they are also very shallow. Tommorow we are headed to Laura which is suppose to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Mainly because there are only 30,000 people on Majuro.

Majuro it's self is interesting, there is only one road that runs though the entire island. It is also shaped very funny ...

Flight and stops in the Marshall Islands

... on the other side of the plane were asked to de-plane with their luggage. I got to watch the inspection but I'm not sure what they were looking for. The inspector wore gloves and touched each passenger seat thoroughly. He even took the seat cushion off and if the covering was loose, he checked inside of it. When one side of the plane was done, the passengers were asked to move ...

Nothing much happened today except I got some shower shoes and Mom, Dad, and I went to the other end and the tide was out so in our shower shoes we went out a long way. We started on our way back, when the tide started coming in. On our way back it started to rain hard and guess who got drenched? Me! I went to a handicraft shop and bought Miss Glassford a gift. We had dinner at Oscar's house. Also we slept there again.

Monday already? But it's still noon! Oh well. International Date Line. Mom and Dad met a man named Oscar Da Broom who was the Marshall Island District Administrator! When we got off the plane he drove us around and the only restaurant which doesn't even have a sign! Also, he showed us where we could get a car. After that, we drove to the far end of the island and back. Then we went to Oscar's and he took us out to eat. When we got back we went to sleep.
