    ... the Church of St Sophia [100] to see the 11th c frescoes. A Japanese gal was not only going to take a photo when I stopped her but also hadn't even paid the entry fee. When one considers the frescoes are about a millenium old, those around the apse especailly are in rather remarkable condition.     I have seen Ohrid called "The Jewel of Macedonia" and The Jerusalem of Macedonia. The former is for its beauty, and has been compared to Lake Tahoe. It is not quite as striking, but I can see the similarities. It is only about 50 miles from Bitola, but up in mountains and pine forests, and has very blue and transparent water.     ... it nice and slow. We went on a mission to find a bus ticket to Kavala Greece, which was our next destination. We successfully bought our tickets and jumped on the subway to the old city again. We made it to the grand bazaar stop and explored that for awhile.
