Short winter break

from keith36505
Stayed for 7 days at the nautilus february 2006 excellent hotel staff, very helpful. 75% german clients, food excellent, location very good...unlike some hotels in the area practically right on the beach , will visit again next year i have stayed at rui hotels before & you can't seem to fault them.its the same story if you are prepared to pay that little extra you get good standards.wine in the restaurant is pricey, this hotel will suit the older person in the winter. don't know about the entertainment as their wasn't much in the winter,

Fantastic Hotel

Just returned from a weeks break at this hotel. I cannot rate it highly enough. The hotel is spotlessly clean. We had a large comfortable room overlooking the pool and beach, the bathroom had lots of extras, shower gel, shower caps, soaps and bath creams. The food was excellent, breakfast was cooked in front of you every morning with a choice of eggs and bacon, there was fresh fruit, cornflakes, pancakes etc, also fresh smoothies made for those who wanted them. The evening meals were superb, so much to choose from and all cooked to perfection. The hotel is in an ideal location near to the Marina and its night life but far enough away not to be disturbed. The evening entertainment was standard with Spanish dancers etc not for those who like it lively. But as I say the Marina is a short stroll away with as much nightlife as you want!.

50th birthday

6 females celebrating a 50th birthday. From arrival until departure we couldn't find any fault with the service, accommodation and food.

Everything was excellent, cuisine was one of the best we've experienced in a Spanish hotel and the staff couldn't do enough.

The only comment we could make was the entertainment. There was one night of good quality but the rest not worth bothering with. We didn't really mind as there were lots of bars and shops nearby.

The pool area is in an excellent location just by the beach and part of the restaurant is outdoors surrounded by banana trees.

We would all definitely visit again next year.

No room available

from A TripAdvisor Member
I arrived with my husband and son looking forward to my holiday only to report to reception and be told there was no room available for us. We were rather shocked to say the least and explained to the concierge that we had a confirmed booking, but he was not interested and just kept repeating they were overbooked and could not offer us a room at their hotel. We asked if we could stay in another Riu Hotel in the area (we asked about the Belplaya) but was told the same they were all booked up and our only alternative was to stay in the Hotel Costa Lagos in Torremolinos. We reluctantly took a taxi to the hotel where they offered us a room with only two beds, we explained there were three of us and they showed us another room with two beds, also this hotel was not up to a Riu Hotel standard and was shabby in comparison. By this time I was getting a bit upset and telephoned the company who booked my hotel. They managed to get us in to the Riu Belplaya which the Nautilius had said was fully booked. We spent our week at the Belplaya and although we were well looked after and the food and rooms of a good standard it was not the holiday we had booked. I am disgusted with the way we were treated and have lost confidence in booking with a Riu Hotel again. My advice would be to stand your ground and not move, phone the company who booked your holiday and take a brochure with you to make sure if you do accept another hotel you are happy with the choice.

Another Great Stay

from kl0800
We visited in April 2005 - for a second time. Our room was great (even though in the basement - our room overlooked the hotel's very green and leafy garden) the hotel was absolutely spotless, the food very good whatever your taste. The hotel had entertainment every night - not the best standard but it did make us laugh! The guests at the hotel were mixed, some with small children, others were older, but then it was early April and out of school holidays. No groups of teenagers, but then this is not the type of hotel for them. Guests came from all over Europe and the USA.

The hotel is a short walk from the Marina and about fifteen minutes from Torremolinos along a long flat promenade and up into the town by lift.

This second visit to the Nautilus reinforced my view of the hotel, it was really great and I can't wait to book again for next year!

PS : If you want to go on day trips, dont go with Tui they are really expensive, try local travel agents, much cheaper and just as enjoyable. example : Gibralter shopper 8Euros50cents with agent, 21Euros with Tui/Thomson!!

Very efficient hotel

We stayed at Riu Nautilus for one week in March 05. We were travelling with our daughter who is nearly 2. We were by far the youngest people in the hotel, but this wasn't a problem as everyone was very friendly. Our daughter got so much attention, particularly in the restaurant, it was lovely.

The food here is superb, always fresh and constantly being replaced so no empty dishes sit around. The staff in the restaurant were great too.

It was a shame the weather was not warm as the hotel is right on the beach. We took a stroll down there a few times so our daughter could collect shells but it was too cold to sit there for long.

The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the marina of Benalmadena. It is nice here, with some good bars and restaurants.

The room was quite large and very well kept and clean. We did not have a great view unfortunately, just a side street.

The TV in the room was mostly German which was very aggravating particularly for our little one!

All in all this is a great hotel. It is not my favourite holiday destination (Torremolinos) but we have family in the area that we wanted to visit. We would consider staying there again if we wanted to return to this area when our daughter is older. There was very little for her to do and it was not very family orientated. Of course, if the weather had been good we could have spent time by the pool.

Make sure you are not in basement

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was nice but overbooked after booking six months in advance,We were given a room in the basement so you didnt know if it was raining or sunshine till you got outside,A lot of unhappy people in the basement,The rep said it is worst in Summer and we went in January. The hotel is more for the older end of the scale than a middle of the road age group. This is a German hotel TiU group.

Overbooked and neighbours from Hell

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having just returned from the Riu Nautilus I felt I had to write a review and I am afraid it is not good.

Before I kick off I must point out that the Hotel itself was very clean and the food was very very good and plentiful.

However on arrival we were allocated Room 303 and on entering this room we found it had a connecting door to Room 304. We were not happy, as we feel these rooms are for families or parties wanting to be together. On complaining to reception we were told the hotel was fully booked and we would be put on alist to be moved (No: 14 on the first evening) Days went by and we had to endure what must have been the noisiest couple on earth. They shouted at each other until 2-30 am we could hear them going to the loo (Literally) and breaking wind. This was just not on. We spoke to our rep on the Tuesday and he spoke to reception (Reluctantly) who then said we were 3rd on the list. Good we thought we will get moved tomorrow NO WAY Thursday came and we were still suffering from no sleep and frazzled nerves.

Once again we went to the rep and he was told we could not move until Saturday (Our departure day)

We then stated we wanted some kind of compensation and filled out a Complaints Report to which the Manager had to sign (I dont know if he ever did) and off went our rep (He was absolutely useless)

Saturday morning arrived (not quickly enough) and our rep told us no one had got back to him and a rep from another company told him to go and get the manager! No apology from anyone. The only thing the Manager would do was pay our Taxi to the Airport. JOKE

I cannot stress how bad the noise was in our room and when our neighbours were told about it they went berserk and made even more noise.

As far as we are concerned if a hotel is overbooked they should not take peoples money.

We have always been fond of Riu Hotels in the past but this one has made us think twice about ever booking another one.

As for the resort we both found it to be very grubby and run down.

The way we were treated has made us give this hotel a low rating, if you like this area and manage to get into this hotel with a decent room then it would be fine. but I must stress there are many bad rooms hence a long list of guests requesting to be moved (Everyday at reception couples were asking to change rooms and told none available

Great location, excellent food

from A TripAdvisor Member
We went here for our honeymoon for 1 week. The location is perfect....right by the beach. A 1 minute walk to the beach. The hotel is definitely a 4 star. the staff was pleasant too. They forgot our wake-up call one day and after getting a little upset at them, they offered us pastries & coffee at the hotel cafe which was nice. The room was better than I had expected according to European Standards. The view from the room was gorgeous...mountains w/ villas in the distance. It was very romantic walking on the path at night. The path stretches all along the beach and there are many bars/restaurants along the walk way.

Breakfast and Dinner was excellent. Buffett for both...Plenty of food and selection. You can also eat on the large patio which overlooks the beach....its gorgeous when the sun is setting.

They have a nice bar on the main floor where they have entertainment every night.

It's easy to get around the city. A 5 minute walk to get onto the main street where the buses come by every 5-10 minutes. We took the train to Malaga one day, bus into Torremolinos downtown another day, bused it to Marbella another day and buesed it to Mijas (village on the hills) one day. Marbella is a must. But make sure to catch the bus early otherwise it gets full and they only come once an hour. Make sure to go to Mijas too.

All-in-all, it was a perfect honeymoon.

Great Hotel, Location ???

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Nautilus is a very nice hotel. The staff was great, the breakfast buffet incredible, and you are right on the beach. Most all rooms have a view of the Mediterranean, except maybe on the zero floor. We were on floor 1 and somewhat upset for security reasons. But after having laundry blow off the balcony and not being able to retrieve it, we realized the grounds were really safe. (The staff did get our laundry back for us.) I only had two very minor issues with this hotel.

Location is one. It is a long walk to Calle San Miguel the main shopping area. If you walk the beach side, there is an elevator (fee) or huge amount of stairs to get up to the shops. The bus is another option. If you are physically fit, then this might be just the hotel for you. (That's not to say there aren't shops and restaurants nearby.) The other issue was regarding stamps. The front desk only gets postage stamps 3 days a week. And I can only assume they kept running out as I was finding it difficult to post a card. Shop owners may try to sell you stamps at an inflated price.
