adventure and mystery with every step

Helloo!!!!
Well, you just never know. After splitting with Matt, its been a wild ride. This is the kind of traveling I live for. Sofia brought a lot of fun and new friends. My rule of thumb to traveling is to find as many Australians and Brits as possible and you will have as many laughs as possible.
I met an Australian fella at my hostel is Sofia . . we decided to travel to Plovdiv together on the train. What was to happen next I could never imagine . .

The Rose Valley -- Rose Oil Production

The hotel was beautiful above the city and we have enjoyed a nice beer on the terrasse and then a opulent meal inside the restaurant.

The next day was the hard day to drıve long hours to Greece and then Turkey. We have only arrıved at 22:30 in Istanbul. The traffic in Istanbul is challenging as all Turkısh drivers only know one way --> agressively forward as fast and as ...

WE MADE IT TO THE BLACK SEA!

The train trip was a bit slow to get interesting and then all of a sudden an explosion of scenery appeared for several hours. The mountains and gorges were quite something, and the small villages, quaint and ordered. The sunflowers continued their merry dance in the field and the corn was still there to be seen by one and all. Wheat was being harvested in the fields adjacent to the trainline. Sunflowers won't be harvested until ...

Batman!

Veliko Tarnovo was a great stop for us. A lovely chilled hostel, free t-shirt, a fort, and a waterfall. What more could you ask for? We took an early morning bus from Sofia and got picked up by a guy from our hostel. The people running this hostel were really amazing. They constantly had friends coming over to hang out, made us several lunches of sopska salad and sausages, and even organized a trip for four of us out to a swimming hole with a small waterfall to jump off ...

Oh what a night

... to be taking the more scenic route around town. It may have been the hangover or may have just been that Shona is learning to chill out more, but she wasn't to fussed, if we missed the first bus there would be another one in an hour. We got to the bus station with 10 minutes to spare, Dino ran around like a mad man looking where to buy the tickets.

Not a problem, so off we go to Varna for a couple of days just to lay on the beach and top up our tans.

Second Easter

Saturday we crossed over the Danube and into Bulgaria. I hadn't realised they used a different alphabet to English, but it somehow marked our first real change.

We visited a beautiful Bulgarian town called Veliko Tarnovo in the afternoon. Wandered around and had a lovely lunch of a big pizza and drinks (all for about £3!) ate some ice cream and did a spot of shopping. We spent the night in the Dayonovo monastery. It was a little weird and the ...

Travelling through Bulgaria by train

I woke up at 645 to get all organýzed for my 25 hr traýn rýde to Istanbul. Along the way I stopped at a bakery so I could get rýd of what remaýnýng currency I had. When I got ýn the traýn, I met 2 Dutch guys - Stefan and Paul. Stefan was very talkatýve whýle Paul was more low key. Both were very cool guys though. Stefan and I spoke a lot about world polýtýcs and Mýddle Eastern hýstory (2 subject areas I dont pretend to be an expert ýn). I was amazed at how much thýs ...

Ten Easy Steps to Apply for Bulgarian Student Visa

... english -- in this case it is a 16 year old Greek student with a lip piercing and spiked hair who is playing hookie (skipping school). He kindly takes you just two blocks away, where a line of taxis wait for passengers in a less crowded area.   Step 10. Arrive at the Bulgarian Consolate, paying the driver 2 Euros, and with just forty-five minutes left to spare before the consolate closes, apply for your Student Visa.   ....and that's it!  It's just that simple folks ...
