... all turned to have a good look at the aliens.
This is a long story, but suffice to say the lady in the second office didn't speak English either, yes, I know, that was our question too, but at least we left with some paperwork after an hour. Our landlady is coming round Saturday morning to help us fill it in before our eyes roll up in to our heads again. By the time we get this sorted, we'll be coming back to Britain.

Weather: Too early to tell

Up at 5.30 am to catch local water taxi, had to carry travel cases down 3 flights of stairs in apartment, then up and down 5 canal bridge crossings, Pete was sweating by the time we had reached the ferry.

... I have been able to get by with only a few greeting and polite phrases and the ubiquitous dove `where is...` I may ask dove.. several times to navigate, even pulling out the map and pointing to what we are trying to get to. I`ll even ask `where is here` when things are particularly confusing.
