On somewhat of a whim we have decided to venture into Milan for the day. None of us have ever been here before, so its a new experience for all.

The day started beautifully with a large number of people Para-sailing and sailing about on Lake Como this morning. Very nice thing to wake up to. After breakfast we left this lovely place and, with our GPS friend made our way into Milano.

We know that there is no parking in the city centre, we also know ...

    Relaxing at Lake Como

    ... atmosphere.
Lake Como, it has to be said, is huge. The water is clear and deep, and in the morning sun, it kind of looks like a grey, teal colour. Very unique. The mountains that rise up from every side of you keep the winds down and make this place unlike anything I have ever seen before. Another astonishing thing I learnt was that “trust” lacks when ...

... morning's gossip session is an understatement!

So with the walk of shame over for the day (its ok, we’re starting to get used to these walks now) we had a lovely breakfast on our terrace and then set off for Lake Orta which is the smallest of the lakes and the furthest West.

To get there we took a car ferry from Laveno Mombello to Verbania then a 30 minute drive to ...

    1583. The Backwards Hike

Day 241 5 hrs, 3 kms Then next day I decide to hike backwards, starting in Erba, at the foothills of the Alps and work my way down the plains towards Seregno. This time I'll try and make sure I don't veer too far off track. Erba is a pleasant little city, with a couple of stately gardens and the typical plaza in front of the ...
