... day? That was the good news, the bad news was that unlike last time when he went down on the train, Fabrizio would be driving as he had a meeting down there, and so they would be leaving Lucca at 6.30am. This meant setting the alarm for 5.30am. An alarm!!! He hadn't heard one of those for months, poor old stick. Well, he made the deadline, and off they went.

Fabrizio had a business meeting to attend, so Ali spent the day wandering the streets like Billy No ...

We're on our way to Italy for the next month and stopped for the night in Bellinzona in the Swiss Alps, we are only an half hours drive from Lake Lugano which we'll visit tomorrow. The first snow of the year fell last night, but I don't think anyone here gets to excited about it, as most of the hotels seem to be closed until the 4th December!

Finalmente! At the lounge. Caught 12.20 bus out to Malpensa. Took 10 minutes to walk to the Metro, catch the train and get on the express bus. So far so good. The bus drives through some awful suburbs. Challenge one. Italian chick for Qatar - and it was my fault for being in the wrong line - tried to tell me I couldn't take my 11kg hand luggage on board. She had to retract when I said I was ...

... so much so that after a few nights here, we decided it was better to pop back into Italy to go out for dinner rather than getting stitched up in Swiss Francs.
That being said, this place is stunning, a very similar lake to Como, but more modern and much more lively. The promenade along the lake front is full of manicured gardens, full of sculptures and other art, paddle boats, ferries, hire boats etc. Lugano itself is a decent sized city and has some ...

      Quiet day in Pella

Pottered about the little town of Pella near to where we are staying. Sat on wooden bench on quayside scoffing a gelato each like oldies do apparently. Delightful. Have now planned next step over the Simplon pass to stay in a small hotel in Chamonix, hoping to see Mont Blanc before the weather closes in. From there working our way back to the channel coast over 4-5 days. All fine and jalopy holding up so far - touch wood. Love to you all again. ...
