... my quiet reflection moments in Borneo when I was 17. It was the first time I'd ever travelled overseas, and honestly I didn't really want to go. The Borneo jungle and scenery was so foreign, and the climate so muggy. The smell of sewerage, the foreign food, the different language, culture, people. The fact that I stood out, all white and rich and sweaty. The sinking feeling when I realised that I would never ever fit in. Travelling to Borneo was an unexpectedly challenging ...

... br> We’re off to see what we can of Lake Como, although the boat ride on the lake that was planned has been cancelled. Antonella regales us with more stories about Italy and its’ culture. At one time they were into prostitution and drugs but now they’re into construction and waste management ...

Timed it so we were able to Skype both of the girls and our grand daughters and had a good chat ...

On our first evening, buoyed by the fact that we had successfully found our home base through an adventurous back road route, we decided to head back into Maratea for dinner. After all we had discovered where the fountain at the center of town was and we knew there were at least 2 or 3 restaurants near the fountain! The main street into the heart of Maratea was blocked to traffic, so we found a tight little parking spot and began strolling through town. What ...

Off To the South of Italy!

... We were off! Exiting the building through 7 levels of switchbacks was a good introduction to Italian roads. For those of you who might not have had the opporunity to drive in Italy or Europe, the parking garages as well as the streets tend to be about 3 sizes smaller than they are in North America.

So when we exited the building following the directions provided, both Linda and I expected to have to make a number of u-turns along the way. We were both pleasantly surprised ...
