Monterosso on Cinque Terre via Milan and Genova

... and rather like an English seaside town, except that the shops sell foccacias and pizza. Our hotel is half a block from the beach but most of the stoney beach areas require you to pay to get in. You can hire a deck chair too, if you pay. We walked to the "old" town but didn't explore very much more. John picked up a paninni for dinner and sat on the balcony and ate it. What a rough life we lead! We have a tour guide and tour of Cinque Terre tomorrow. Let's hope the sea isn't too ...

Time at leisure on Lake Como

Today was a rest day. MAfter a late breakfast at 9:30 we organised ourselves and decided to go to the next village for a look around. We took the ferry to Cernobbio via Torno so zigged across the lake then back again towards Como. As with anywhere on the lake, it was once again, very picturesque. As we alit, we noticed that there was a market in progress. What luck! It sounded a bit like Victoria Market of old with all the fresh fruit ...

Plan B Again

The 5 min cab ride to my Verona hotel was jaw dropping, churches, ancient walls, arches and streets so tiny you would think they were for pedestrians only. Nothing prepared me for the hotel and the arena just steps away from the front door. A roman arena in the city's largest square with restaurants, cafés, bars and high end stores. Leave it to the Italians to put L Vuitton, Channel, Dolce Gabana ...

... of steps up to the main shopping Centre but we persevered and took the long climb up for the sake of being able to experience all that Bellagio had to offer. We walked to the point and saw where the three arms of the lake met. More good photos but also still wet. Then visited a church and did a little shopping - scarf and souvenirs and the first mug was purchased. Back to the ferry and across the lake again (10 minutes on a car ferry) where we met our car. It was not ...

Plan B.

Plan A is scrapped due to rain. I had reserved a 19 ft center console with a little 40hp Suzuki to tool around the lake for the day and visit some of the small towns that cling on steep hillsides to the waterfront. However, it's pouring out and the forecast for the rest of the day is not looking promising. So it's off by ferry to the main town of Como. First stop is to get a rain jacket and an umbrella, More stuff ...
