... hopeful seagull who was sitting on the awning above one of the stalls. We were wondering how they keep the gulls away. We then saw one of the fruit&veg stall holders feeding the gulls with bread. Maybe that is how it works..... The open nature of the fish stalls would not work at Vic market but that is probably because of flies. I have not seen a single fly here. Or mosquito for that matter. Mind you, it is winter.... We decided to get a day pass for the vaporetto - the water bus - and ...

... a wooden bridge & after a few twists & turns, through a square we find the little sign down an alleyway that marks our hotel. A converted monastery. Maps in Venice don't help you, half the fun is getting lost. ... and made our way to the hotel we were to stay in for the next three nights. We were taken by surprise when we had arrived. It contradicted the Venetian hotel we stayed in; in Venice we were centrally located in a beautiful area while in Rome we colloquially referred to our hotel as the “Roman ghetto.” We remained on the outskirts of the town in a hotel that threatened to fine us circa 300 euro for a noise complaint. My stomach sank. Our group is loud. ...

... to go. Turns out we arrived below ground and must go up to sets of escalators to the tracks above ground, for our connecting train. The weather today is cool but we can’t complain, as we have had hot sunny weather since arriving in Italy. We leave the train station with our first stop at Piazza Roma where we will pick up our key to the apartment. The owner has given very good directions for walking to the apartment so after 7 bridges and zig zagging through narrow streets ...
