The Iya valley is sold in the guidebooks as undiscovered hidden Back to nature Japan. So I was ready for a rushing river and long hikes. And then there is the famous vine bridge crossing the Iya river, a feat of old timey engineering. But I should have remembered that in Japan , if there is something cool to see there is definitely going to be bus parking. So, I stayed in a little guesthouse ,Kel Na Sob, perched ...

... As we were running out of time before the park was due to close we practically ran around the park and managed to do most of the 1hr & 40 minute walk in 30 minutes, whilst also carrying 15kg each!!

Naruto was ok if you're passing through it but we wouldn't recommend just heading there, so maybe a thumbs down. However, ritsurin park was beautiful and we would have liked to spend longer there so probably a thumbs up.
Next stop Kotohira and a ryokan ...

Because yup, the mountain was full of highly poisonous and dangerous 'Mamushi', a viper that bit around 3000ppl per year. So camping on the ground was out if the question. Instead there was a henro ...

... images with the blog is through little miss iPhone. But I find the photos too dull since she is a bit old and tired, even after tweaks in in-phone-Photoshop the quality still sucks a bit. So I'm using a stitch app to get larger panoramic images. A little more interesting to look at. Funny angles n stuff. But sometimes they end up a bit weird in the stitching. But that I can live with. However I have no idea how they look on a big screen. On my phone they are ace. Just so you know.. ...

      Olive Island OR Scam?

... across to the islands. The experience was much more civilized than that last time Paul and I were involved with a motor vehicle being shipped across a sea (think back to the floating Bolivian bus…) and we arrived on Shodoshima just before lunchtime. Although the island is famous for olives, we decided to visit a soy sauce brewery to see the old fashioned way of brewing as well as enjoying their specialty for lunch - soy ...
