... on the tourist leaflets, we were slightly underwhelmed by the whirlpools when we got there! We had thought that there would be 2 really big, deep whirlpools under the bridge, however it is actually more like lots of little whirlpools which all twist and turn into one another. It was still a pretty impressive sight though.

... Usually a mirage is a water source in a desert. For me it was smokey noodle stands and carts with old ladies frying okonomiyaki (a pancake-like thing filled with cabbage and cheese or/and meat or tuna topped with BBQ sauce n mayo- it is heaven)! And suddenly - boom! A noodle house. A massive place with picture menus and as much free green tea you can drink. Whoop! Everyone turned their head when sweaty stinky wee me entered the facilities. ... the corner for a dose of caffeine.. But erm.. nope apparently not. Arcade shops and coffee places opened at 10.30am. So very surprising. I have never before experienced a Japanese city where places are not open for business at the call of the rooster. Interesting. Another early start and we bid farewell to Hiroshima and hit the expressway to Shodoshima. The island of Shodoshima lies in the Seto Inland Sea and belongs to Shikoku Island and to reach it we had to ferry the car across the sea form the mainland (Honshu).
