We arrived at the Athens airport around 9:30pm and we had already organized a transfer to the hotel! We got this crazy driver who didn't care about speed limits!! And it still took about an hour to get to our hotel which was near the Acropolis! Friday - today was boiling hot was about 30 degrees at 10am!! We went to the Acropolis at around 2pm and it was so hot!!!!! The ruins are amazing!! So many ancient buildings and temples, was incredible to see!! ...
... they continue to work and restore the site. This effort was particularly impressive as the site is mostly living quarters and homes of apparently fairly wealthy people, you could still see fine tilling work on the floors and they had images of its condition before they started restoring it and they have done an amazing job. As we left we encountered a gang of Roma girls giving away (selling) roses I hadn't seen very many last time we were here but this time they were everywhere. ...
... and the best flight I've even done) I realized how exhausted I was from photographing santorini, falling asleep for four hours after some yummy gyros. Finally good food! After sleeping 12 hours again, we began exploring the Parthenon and surrounding ruins. It was pretty impressive but I think we've become a bit acclimatized to ruins now. We became hungry and found this awesome and amazing beer burger house. Wow this feels like newcastle! We had two beers each, a Greek red ...
... Before leaving for our tour this morning we dropped off some washing at the local laundry. After finishing our visit to the stadium, we went to collect the washing. Greg asked Alex, the young guy at the counter where he had learnt to speak such good English. He told us that he was born in Australia but had left Melbourne when he was 2 years old. We found this strange as he used the
term "no worries" when we had dropped off the clothes and we consider that a fairly Aussie ...
Today we did a day cruise to three greek islands. We were up at six then the car they sent picked us up at 7. The cruise didn't depart until 8. We enjoyed a cappachino on the deck waiting for other passengers to board. The cruise takes you to three greek islands, near to Athens: Hydra, Poros and Aegina. It took around two hours to reach Hydra. Hydra has a town, called Hydra with a population of 1900, this is where the port is. ...
