      On the Sunday I moved bases: from the hotel in Bad Pyrmont, to an apartment for a full week in Quedlinburg, 2 hours drive.

      On the way over I stopped in medieval hansa town Hameln for a couple of hours. The famous tale of the rat catcher comes from here, and is exploited to the full.

      The choice of saunas, pools, hot tubs and steam baths was good though, and I had a good massage.

      And the views and fresh air were great. It was on a hill overlooking forests.

      Also, I had forgotten my sunglasses so it was hard to read my book in the glaring (lovely) sun. The guy from reception was very friendly and lent me a pair of sunglasses from ...

      After 20 hours of planes, trains, and automobiles, we have arrived safely at our destination and can once again sleep in a horizontal position. We couldn't figure out how to use the GPS system in the Mercedes Benz rental! So grateful we had the iPad to come to the rescue. We are staying at the edge of a lake, and had dinner al fresco.
