Buchholz in der Nordheide, Lower Saxony, Germany flogging.molly... The guidebook said that we would have to be very determined and, I knew, Elaine at least was extremely determined to get there. Bergen Belson is the place where Anne Frank's life ends. But one thing at a time. We had, the day before, gone to the place Anne and her family were first sent once they had been captured: Westerbork Transit Camp. The Westerbork Camp is a bit northeast of the tiny town of Westerbork itself. We've been really lucky about ...
Celle, Lower Saxony, Germany mrcolella...
Eystrup, Germany caroruben... hatte doch ziemlich Angst!
Celle, Germany carorubenHere we stayed for a few days to rest at a family campground where everyone seemed surprised that we came such a long way from Canada and that my last name has a german meaning. There was a pond (lake-ish water) with ducks and I went swimming once. We played a lot of chess and some guitar, etc. When the the local shops (three bakeries ...

Scheessel, Germany mats575... Hamburg. Upon arrival, Oliver's dad's friend (tour guide) met us with a welcome sign and a HUGE bus - like a bus for 30 people except there were only 12 of us... :) Plenty of room! Again, the weather was awful - COLD, rainy, and miserable, but being in the bus really helped. Our first stop was a little toilet place - apparently there used to be toilet stops around the BinnenAlster Lake, but no one was taking care of them, so the government closed them down ...
Hamburg, Germany koehlers... adults off at a swanky hotel and we (Oliver, Erin, Kajal, Brett, Anthony, and I) were off to the cheaper place (which was pretty nice too)! We checked in and then decided to walk around in the rain, directly to a pub, to enjoy our first beer in Lueneberg. It was a bank holiday, so all the shops were closed - all we could do was window shop. There was one crazy store - the "US Store" where the ...
Lueneburg, Germany koehlersI landed in Hamburg. I thought I was going to be on my own getting to Lueneburg, but Soeren met me outside the gate. Then we met up with Tyler and took the train to Lueneburg. Ingrid met me at the train station in Lüneburg. She showed me around town and took me to their ...
