Thus we set off, ultimately aiming for the center of town, though naturally detouring a bit whenever I saw something spiky, as I simply cannot resist gothic architecture. Our first stop was the Minnewater Lake and the Gunpowder Tower. For a first view of the city and introduction to its charms, one could hardly ask for better.

... were visiting the chocolate shop where praline was invented, and taking a bar tour of some of the craft beer bars in Belgium. The tour was great. We started with a bar where we heard the history of Trappist beers. For those who don’t know, Trappist beers are made by one of 8 certified trappist monk breweries in the world, 6 of which are in Belgium.
