Slept most of the way, one of the advantages of a USO bus, but what we saw of the drive was beautiful. The Lake has a series of ferries to all of the little towns around and to both islands in the middle. We picked up a ferry to Herrenislan (man island) from Prein. Didn't have much time to see the town. There was a steam train that brought people in and a few restraunts around the pier.

Stef's tour of Rosenheim, Kufstein and Wendelstein

... and had AuerBrau Helles from Rosenheim

Saturday was pretty overcast and not looking good for our planned hike up into the mountains. But apparently it was sunny up top above the cloud line so we decided to go as we wouldn't get another opportunity.
Drove out into the Alps and started at a point about 900m above sea level.
Hiked to the top of Wendelstein mountain which is 1838m above sea level. Weather was beautiful on ...

... hand at an ariel assault course....he came back a shell of his former self after 3 hours in the trees hanging from bits of wire and trying to keep up with 9 year old girls who were more agile than him..for my penance I had to play pitch and putt with Lauren using carved putters and wooden balls..no danger i'll be joining a golf tour anytime soon.

Definitely worth a visit in winter for you keen boarders out there.

The museum was pretty cool and certainly a unique experience. The weather was really nice today too so once we completed the museum and the shopping, we went to the park behind the giant's head. Here they have a hedge maze shaped like the giant's hand which looked pretty cool but we didn't venture in. Instead we soaked up a little sun before moving on to the next destination.

A brief visit to Kufstein

En route to the airport, Keith needed to do a bit of shopping for next week's guests so we paid a visit to Kufstein while he shopped there. Kufstein is a town with big history, owned by Bavaria in the middle ages but long one of Tirol's most northerly towns. The historical centre is hard to miss: an ancient castle perched atop a hill.

The lower Altstadt is cute but consists ...

Big climbs in the Wilderkaiser

... all of it but enjoyed what I could.

We lunched on snack bars and fruit after another big climb then did more challenging singletrack descents. I get a bit of vertigo on some of the trails where there's a steep drop to the side.

I was now on my 6th day of riding and when Keith asked whether I was up to another big climb to sample yet more singletrack descending ...

Rainy Salzburg

... for days after all! Our tour guide freaked us out slightly by telling us he had something special to tell us, then not telling us what it was. Had we won a prize? Had our holiday been cancelled? Would we have no accommodation? We had to wait till halfway to Kitzbuehel to find out. It was that there was a triathlon going on right around our hotel so we might not be able to get to the Welcome meeting the next morning as the road was going to be closed ...

Day 2 of our Trip, Fall (GER) to Ehrwald (AUT)

... to Klamm. The valley proved to be a beautiful sight, and we stopped at Klamm after another 1.5h of biking, because the Ehrwald pass was in front of us. Leaving Klamm, we went up the Gaistal Valley with its mountain river, the Leutascher Ache. After 4km, we left the public road and went on the unpaved trail next to the creek. Around us was one of the most beautiful mountain valleys, a breathtaking site. As ...

... to some piano accordion thanks to Andrea junior. Looked at lots of photos and made a real mess of working out who was related to who.

After exhausting most topics we made an exit back across the road, and used our space and facilities. Shame it was only for one night. I was a freak show of the night -- all evening they would look at me and shake their heads -- and lament that I wouldn't drink beer. I even had a bottle and opener put in front of me in case I changed my mind.

Kitzbühel

... can share some of its beauty with you. The weather was starting to break, and we decided to head up to Kitzbuheler Horn. To get to the top of the mountain, we had to take two separate cable cars. The first car was a gondola-type car that took us to what they call the 'middle station’. There we had to change cars to reach the top. We had about 45 minutes to wait for the next car, so we had some time to view the valley from this point…and oh ...
