After a week in Basel we jumped on the train to visit my Uncle and Aunt (Heinz and Elsa) in Gossau – a small town in the north east of Switzerland. On the way we spent a few hours in Zurich where we just wandered around the city centre, had lunch and sat by the lake. Heinz and Elsa met us at the train station and walked us back to their place – about 2 minutes away! They took us for a drive up to a place which gives a great view over St Gallen ...

Appenzell ist der Hauptort des Halbkantons Appenzell Innerrhoden, liegt ca. 780 m ü.M. und hat knapp 6000 Einwohner. Speziell an Appenzell ist, dass sich der Ort aus 3 politischen Gemeinden zusammensetzt – Appenzell, Schwende und Rüte. Schon im 16. Jahrhundert wurde deshalb die Feuerschaugemeinde gegründet, die sich der gemeindeübergreifenden Aufgaben annimmt, z.B. Feuerwehr, Polizei usw.

In den letzten Jahren wurde viel dafür getan, das Städtchen zu erhalten. Viele Häuser sind mit viel Liebe immer wieder renoviert worden. Aber leider hat das Sterben der kleinen Geschäfte auch hier nicht halt gemacht. While the boys were getting their hands dirty, Charlotte & I used the last of the light to get a few more shots. We were lucky that the 'Man in a Tie' made an appearance and was happy to pose for a photo for the bingo card! And the shop in the garage revealed some more goodies for photos, too!

It is amazing to think how long ago some of those books and transcripts were written, and how well cared for they must be to remain in excellent condition. ... Gottlieben, Switzerland. One of Rick's business associates had made reservations for us at the Hotel Drachenburg. Quite a nice place! Our room seemed very French with a bidet and a chaise lounge. We had lunch there and had dinner with Helmut. I don't have the name of the restaurant, but we had possibly the best poached salmon ever!!
