Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany sql_spice... 8 hours until 6pm and see if there are any no-shows or go to Vogelweh. Vogelweh was a more expensive option but a sure thing and I could have it immediately.
We weighed all the factors and decided that in our exausted condition, Vogelweh was the best option so we picked up our rental car and headed out.

... Reinfels Ruins, which was once the greatest castle in all of Germany. We even tried to go down to the mine tunnels, crawling underground with just a flashlight to guide the way. Unfortunately we hit one too many dead ends and so we didn´t get too far. Just as we were leaving, the rain started up again. After huddling together for our ¨picnic on the Rhine¨ underneath one of the signal towers, we decided to brave it back to Bacharach. We were ...

The main feature of the trip was the many castles spread along the route. Most of these were to enforce river tolls, or to claim various sections of the river for a particular baron or, in later years, as elaborate residences for the rich. Dad bought a book about the castles that provided more information to complement the commentary provided on the boat.

... 9 yo host brother we arrived in the littleish town of Bacharach, lying cosily in a little nook of the Rhine River. The difference between the geography of Schleswig Holstein and Rheinland-Pfalz is amazing, the long, low marshes against the rising mountaing and flowing vineyards...along with flowing wine. We started off our tour with a climb up one of these mountains to Rheinstein Burg, an ancient castle perched precariously on ...
Bad Kreuznach, Germany seb89... five minute bus ride away from Frankfurt!! Oh well, was a chance for me to catch up on sleep. Once I arrived in Frankfurt I went to the hostel, which was located in a nice part of the city, across the road from the train station and in the red light/drug district!! After leaving my bag in my room, I set out to see the city. I walked in the direction of the old town. 80% of the town centre was destroyed by bombing raids ...
Frankfurt, Germany jcastellan... with some cappucino before our next flight. Business class to India was not quite as nice, but still good. We were still able to stretch out and back mostly, and they kept on feeding us! I think we ate once every 5 hours for the whole trip. We left Germany at 1:55am, and were served lunch and dinner on the flight (between which I slept). I had a traditional Indian dish for dinner called... well I can't remember now, but I'll fill it in later. It was good. One thing about ...
