... and I ended up banging our back end quite ******* the lock entrance stone wall.

No one else was greatly troubled but I got a bit of whip lash and felt like an absolute and complete idiot! The collision also knocked some plates out of the dish drainer which dramatically smashed themselves to bits on the floor, but we had too many plates anyway. Encore has a bad paint scratch on one of the side rails for about 5 inches, which I ...

After a quick freshen up back at the hotel, we went into town for a quiet dinner for two. Many of our group were wandering around so we ended up in an eight at a very good French restaurant and had the best French red wine we have ever had from the Medoc region. Bed at 11.30. ...

Rather than cutting each stone on site, as had been done for the early cathedrals in the 1100’s, most of the stones were ordered by size pre-cut at the quarry site, then shipped to Amiens and put in place. The same was true of the various wood parts. That saved a lot ...

Getting there and started

A travel blog entry by freemant on Apr 26, 2015

After quite a long flight, we picked up our car in Brussels and drove to Ieper. Took quite a while to find our hotel but nice. We did not feel like a big dinner so had soup at a nearby pub. We had a 4am start on Anzac Day. We drove to Zonnebeke, parked the car and caught a shuttle bus to Polygon Wood. Moving ceremony. Julie Bishop was the Australian Government representative. We had breakfast in Zonnebeke and the shuttled to Tyne Cot for a ...
