Messing about in the South of France

... be next to a nature reserve. I thought this would give me a chance to see what this part of the South of France was like and then I could move inland if I didn't like it. Just before I reached the site the single track road I was following arrived at what looked like a huge water pipe running under the main coastal road. My little road went through this 'pipe' but as it was only 2m high and I am over 3m high there was no way I was even going ...

    Dreaming with Dali

When we chose to stay in this area of Catalonia, at the top of my 'must see' list was the museum in Figueres devoted to the Surrealist artist, Salvador Dali. From my History of Art days at school in the 70s, I can remember being fascinated by the weird and wonderful paintings he created. ... with a lump the size of a small egg on my right elbow, minor grazes to my knuckles and knees, I administered my own first aid until David came back an hour later. He must have been out of signal range to receive my mobile call. I had bought a bag of frozen peas a day or two earlier so that became my cold compress! Next morning (Saturday) we left Millau for Spain as intended to arrive at Can Coromines near Besalu, Catalonia, just after lunch. There were ...

    Benicarlo?! Really?!

... same is going to happen tomorrow morning! In fairness, the email also stated that the owners also had jobs, which did explain their absence. They aren't cannibals. We came to this small village in Catalunya for one reason only, the Dali museum at Figueres. I'm not really a fan of Surrealism, Renaissance is more my cup of tea, but the wife loves Dali's work. From the outside, the museum looks like a big red castle with giant eggs on the roof, very typically Dali. Having queued ...
