... bit grotty and run down and a bit poor… that does not normally put us off though so not sure what was wrong. The town was under going a fair bit of renovation and rejuvenation work and has a hell of a lot of potential as great place to visit…so perhaps in 5 years that is exactly what it will be. We went for a wander and found the amphitheatre which was like a mini coliseum in the center of town. It ...
Arles, Provence, France darrenhough74... rain finally stopped after nearly a week so we were able to enjoy some out of Scooby time!
Saturday 7 Nov
Forecasted for rain today but it held off until late afternoon which gave me time to replace the washer in the gear box and for Kim to go for a run, which she was hankering for as she had been getting a little cabin fever of late due to the rain and lack of exercise/time outside!
... and Rhone. Built in 90 AD it’s hard to imagine all the events that have taken place in this building. Walking around and around, I tried to imagine it filled with 20 000 screaming fans as gladiators ripped apart animals, but it was hard. From Medieval times to the 1830’s, it was bricked up and used as a fortified city. 212 housed and 2 churches made their home ...
Arles, Provence, France 2totango Starry, starry, night.
Paint your palette blue and grey.
Look out on a summer’s day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Arrived in picturesque provencal France - immortalized by the many artist’s who have lived here over the years capturing the soft light, countryside and charming towns. Arles is our destination ...
Curse the Mistral - it has been blowing for 3 days non stop and it is gale force and freezing cold. It appears to have abated slightly this afternoon and our local guide informed us that it stops after either 3 days, 6 days or 9 days so we are hopeful. Last night it ws like sleeping under a jet ready for take off all night. Poor Big Mama got rocked around and it takes a lot to move her. A big ...
Avignon, Provence, France falkewind... mine a variety of glaces including licorice, topped with finely shaved licorice. The waiter explained when we were ordering that the chef considered cooking to be an art, and in the manner of a painter, he arranged the food as though it was on a palette. Hence the name of the restaurant.
Narbonne
Our friend Susan Flintoff had recommended a restaurant in Narbonne, called Le Petit Comptoir that she and Brett had enjoyed last year ...
... nook and cranny. It had heaps of stuff, some great produce that we just do not see which I would love to get imto the kitchen with. We bought our first present which fittingly enough is for little nephew Ethan. It probably won't be the last for him either me thinks!!!! While in the village we ran into the chocolate king of this town, Joel Durand. He is the chocolate master ...
St-Remy De Provence, France bigbrowndogWe arrived in Aix after a short train ride and a long bus ride into town. For some reason, they booked us on a train that dropped us off at a train station 25 minutes by bus from town. We didn't really understand that one. We got to our hotel and checked in. For only 20 Euros a night, it was a pretty nice place. As usual, it is extremely hot in any room(because we don't pay for AC) but this room was like an oven. I ...
