... which is a huge green area very pleasant to walk through apart from the interminable bicycles which are absolutely everywhere and have complete priority over pedestrians and cars. You really have to keep a watch out in all directions and crossing the roads is worse than in Cairo or Rome!! No one wears Lycra or cycle helmets and they travel really fast along the cycle lanes which are everywhere. Have to admit we did not see many ...

As Berber had said previously about 95% of the tourists that come to Amsterdam are there for the Red Light District or the Coffee shops, instead of divulging into the rich history and beauty of Amsterdam. ... the same thing happened. I didn't like to look too closely as I thought it would be quite intrusive. I wasn't really too sure what to do if they caught me looking so just smiled politely and only glanced. I'm sure the poor women are used to being ogled in far more humiliating ways. ... at least 8 times. There are many stories as to why it was put there. The most likely is it was to represent the poor people who got paid for their urine which was used to make leather hides. If this story couldn't get any more random, this little boy statue got made into a Sir so the French solders back in the day had to salute it when walking past. Nowadays a local committee, with its own tailor makes uniforms and outfits for this little boy, who is no more than 40cm tall. ...
