    After a fairly long drive through the countryside, we aborted an attempt to drive all the way into La Rochelle for lunch because of the slow traffic crawl some 15kms out. We settled for lunch canal-side in Marans, the Green Venice of France, a place we'll have to come back and explore more in the coming days.

    Having left Brugge, we drove as far as we could into France using the Autoroutes where deemed neccessary. After a good few hours of driving and still 4 hours to our house, we stopped off for the night south of Tours. We rose relatively early, in yet more drizzle, to drive to our friends Paul & Karen for lunch before the last and final hour to home.

    ... eight french speaking people was a challenge of understanding and patience but two of the guests were pilgrims doing 2 weeks per year hiking the camino and they had a little english to go with Laurie's little french so we got on fine until the politics came out and it got beyond our capacity.
