    ... that we did not hit any speeds anywhere near 300kph. We sat at a table with a businessman-communications-consultant. His English was excellent and we had a very good conversation for the last hour of the trip to Basel.

    We arrived in Basel around 11:05am, we disembarked and James & I made a bee line for Brezelkönig - the pretzel shop - a little piece of heaven. We changed a few Euros for Swiss Francs and headed downtown. ...

    ... called the maneater. Sad stuff. From there headed into Colmar, the bigger town of the area. A really beautiful place. Half timbered and stone houses and flowers everywhere. Had a really nice look around, and then spent the night in a really nice hotel, the Turenne. Took a salad down to the town square about 8pm and listened to the live music and watched people. ...

    Spent the day driving through the Alsace wine route. Lots of little towns, all with old castles and half timbered houses. Kaysersberg was a good example, just on the edge of the Vosges Mountains. Around this area their are also a lot of war memorials and cemeteries from both world wars. Around here are the remnants of the Maginot line, a line of underground forts and huge gun turrets ...

    ... and headed back to our accommodation. Tomorrow we will look at the town more and drive around the area a bit. One thing this town is famous for also, is its white storks. They breed here, and there are huge nests on the top of many of the highest buildings. At the moment the chicks are quite big, so easy to see.
