      ... There was no way I was climbing the peak without any hiking gear. They cram about 30 people per tram and it is very eerie as the tram slowly disappears into the clouds and I couldn't see anything. Finally, I had reached the peak.       ... of you that don't know the monument was built between 1820-1821 to pay respect to the 800 or so swiss men who lost their lives defending and protecting King Louis XVI and his family during the French revolution. I don't have enough words to describe the pain and sorrow depicted on the lions face, for a stone carving it is pretty incredible.

      About 20 miles north of Lucerne we got our first glimpse of the magnificent swiss alps. In spite of the bright sunny day, a haze softened the impact of the peaks as we got closer to Lucerne Zentrum.
