    ... because of the water eddies affecting us. Thank goodness we had the tide with us and not against us too!! When we turned on to the Spui, it was not supposed to have a tidal flow and if it did it should have been with us, BUT it did have a flow and was quite strong against us! This section is manually controlled and normally has a flow going north, and by jove it did, but not as much as the Oude Maas.

    ... Bruno came in as well. Rotterdam was an hour and fifteen minutes away, so we arrived at five fifteen. From there we caught a taxi to Benthuizerstraat. We saw her original diary, waked in the original secret rooms behind the movable bookcase doorway, and felt a little of what it must have been like to live this way in what turned out to be a futile attempt to escape the Nazis. Sandy read "The Diary Of Anne Frank" in high school so the visit was especially interesting for her.
