      ... out over the street, looking tipsy, but our guide assured us that they were built that way, so that ropes and pulleys attached to the beam extending out from the ridgepole of the roof could be used to haul goods for storage to the upper floors of the merchants' homes.       ... canal for some breakfast. On the way, Daniel and I decided that to fit in, we should make up a word that sounds Dutch and put it in our sentences when talking to Dad. Our made up Dutch word is 'schlaucheijkn', which is pronounced 'shlaken', but I feel to be a justifiably Dutch word it also needs to be spelt ridiculously.       Vibrant,cosmopolitan,unpretentious,fres h and friendly,that's Amsterdam! Quite different from it's neighbour Germany.There are many nationalities represented and most speak some good English.It is such a pleasant and relaxing environment.I think it compares with Venice and Paris ,not as stylish,but loads of character.The city center is filled with canals and little bridges and beautiful typically dutch buildings.Lots of cafes,restaurants ...

      ... at the end of the day so adjourned back to the B&B for a well earned sleep. Just a quick note, Amsterdam doesn't seem to sleep, especially at this time of the year when is it light at 5 in the morning and it doesn't start getting dark until after 10pm, there is always people out in our street, and it doesn't really get dark, just darkish!       ... soup we licked our bowls clean – it was so good! We also enjoyed watching the “Bros” at the table next to us with their tiaras and the man of honor in a cheetah print top, pink glitter cheeks and a tutu to top it off!
