Today was not to be the best of days for luck on this tour and I just hope it does not spell the kind of luck I will be having for the rest of the trip.

... hadn't realised when we stopped in Bellinzona last night that it is a Unesco World Heritage listed site, as it has 3 magnificent castles built in the 13th, 14th & 15th centuries and surrounded by a high city wall, and then surprisingly the weekend was also Unesco 'open house' weekend, so all buildings were open and free to the public.

... cities are very modern once you get out of the old town. But the cows are grazing in the modern part of the towns as well. We actually haven't seen cows grazing in the old town of these villages. There just isn't room for them.
