Whew!!! Busy Day!!

... one for 50 Euro, so I was a little suspicious of this price. So I decided to go to the other mattress place...across town. Got on a couple different buses and eventually made it there. These mattresses were the same price, and big slabs of foam with a covering. I felt a little uncertain about spending 100 euro on a big foam slab, so when the lady was talking to some other customers I slipped out. Soooo back to the first store. The salesguy ...

... space isn't exactly the safest place to be. With the German national elections coming up, tensions are high.

At least the weather is nice here, though! We are having a little Indian summer, about 70 degrees and sunny outside. I better take advantage of this now, because I hear the winter can be really terrible: sunrise at 10am and sunset at 4pm.. we shall see how that goes.

Ok well Nil should be here any minute, more later!

3rd Weekend in Germany

Hi all,

Had a pretty lazy Sunday. I know that tomorrow is going to be very busy so I just wanted to relax today. Had apple strudel ala mode for lunch, haha. Then we had a turkish dish for dinner. It was chicken wings and sliced potatoes on a pan lightly smothered in tomato sauce with lots of spices and garlic. It was pretty good! I just dont like the skin or fat on chicken, and I dont like ...

Lean Green gives up the ghost

... They told us we were at the highest point in Belgium, which was somewhere in the Nature Park.

We decided to call it a day for the roadbook, and make a detour to just get into Luxembourg for fuel, and to make sure we 'did' all the countries.

Looking back that detour cost us some time, but did mean we visited Luxembourg, even if it was too dark to see it.

Picked up the Lean Greens

Once in Elsloo, we stopped to find postcards (having completely missed the observations again), only to find that the only card shop was closed that afternoon.

Up the road a bit, and Kieran was dropping a card into the door of a Landy enthusiast they had met on the recce. The guy turned up at that moment, and so we were invited in for a refreshing cold drink. The Landyprikkers overtook us at that point, and went on their way. We then ...

... hope its free to get in! haha

Just fixed a pizza for dinner and watched Nil make a "birthday cake" for her friend. It was nothing like we would consider a birthday cake; it had mandaran oranges and crust and was all creamy. It looked delicious, nonetheless. I hope they bring a piece back for me!

Well gonna get ready for the church outing. Hope everything is going well for everyone back in the states!

... I’m here, my passport, and my insurance card. Shouldn’t be too difficult.

Also, I think I have found an apartment! I have told the landlady that I wanted it, but I’m not going to say it’s my apartment until the keys are in my hands. It is a small but very nice one room apartment, furnished, with a separate and very nice bathroom. The bed and other furniture look brand new, there is a hard wood ...

Trundling down towards Aachen and Koln

We 'trundled down past Maastricht towards Germany. The deviations were big ones but we still were able to make good time! The scenery was worth the deviations though. We past by some wonderful little towns and river gorges. Very nice bit of countryside. Will have to return there sometime, God willing!

The kindness of strangers

... there was no way I could just ride on. As much for conversation as anything else, I asked for directions to the nearest campsite. Never has such a simple question produced such an energetic reponse. The bar was horseshoe-shaped, and barely fitted in the front part of the pub, so when people were sat around it, as now, its a squeeze to move around. Everyone around the bar had an opinion- which way to go, where to go, its too late, too cold, too far away. I ...

PART II (J'AIME LES FRENCH!)

... he let me jump in his semi-truck. Klaus may have earned the blue ribbon for the boldest stop anyone has ever made for me. Donkeshayne, Klaus! Klaus was thin, about forty, and nice to talk to. I had him leave me at the junction with a small rural highway, so I could do some countryside moving. When night came, I stood beside a wooden pen. Inside the pen were two of history's most cartoon-ish farm animals, and they came to greet. One was a pony who was pigmy and ...
