Weeks 8-9: Denmark, Spain and a Belgian Hospital

... my stay here now, it will not be so easy for me to come to you - you may have to come to visit me if you want to see me whilst I am here. But just give me a call (my number was on Facebook last week), or drop me an email and we'll figure something out. For everyone else, please rest assured (family in particular) that I am OK now, and that it seems to have been a big scare that I am recovering from satisfactorily. Until next time, and hopefully with better news, I hope you are all well.
Back to my dutch family heritage

... and we had a good time bowling.
We also got to try lots of new foods and enjoyed some of our favourites that we hadn't had for a while. Luckily for me the Strous family feels the same way about chocolate as I do. In the mornings I had chocolate spread on toast and after dinner I had chocolate custard! Delicious!! We tried multiple new types of cookies and the Bami was very good- I will have to get the recipe and give it a go myself.
On Monday Steve and I ...

Most horrible restaurant ever in SPA Belgium

During our stay in Spa we had the most scary, horrible, unpleasant experience ever in a restaurant.

The restaurant to avoid is "Le Bouchon Gourmand", the owner does not hesitate to insult customers, lock them into the restaurant if there is a dispute on the bill, and claim more money than is due.

See more on www.bouchon-gourmand.blogspot.com

... 7-8 minute walk, so we just walked together. His name is Yuwu and hes from China, been living in Aachen for 3 years. He speaks Chinese, English, and German. He was pretty cool and we traded emails when we parted. Maybe I will hit him up sometime to go do something, who know? (Don't get jealous Matt, I'm allowed to have friends, aren't I? :)

So I finally made it back home. Left at 8 this morning and got back at 6pm. I guess thats not ...

... so it won't cost so much to get there. I am focusing on having enough money for food, electricity, rent, and a mattress, and Oktoberfest isn't really high up on the list of priorities right now. I will be so excited and relieved when I get everything settled and can really focus on integrating myself and learning German!!

Also I am concerned with the safety at the Oktoberfest.. with hundreds of thousands of people grouped in a ...

Lean Green gives up the ghost

... They told us we were at the highest point in Belgium, which was somewhere in the Nature Park.

We decided to call it a day for the roadbook, and make a detour to just get into Luxembourg for fuel, and to make sure we 'did' all the countries.

Looking back that detour cost us some time, but did mean we visited Luxembourg, even if it was too dark to see it.
Picked up the Lean Greens

... on.

We stopped at one point, because the roadbook wasn't very clear, at which point Gaz and Charlotte came up behind us. They had been left behind by the V8s, as they were in a Series vehicle, so we said we'd stick with them.
At this point, Kieran noticed a strange noise from our engine, which was duly investigated by James. It was diagnosed as the fan belt tensioning pulley. But we didn't do anything about it at the time.
The kindness of strangers

... information office had closed. There were internet cafes all over the place, so I let google be my guide. This, it transpired, was both serendipitous and a mistake. The internet told me, in all good faith I´m sure, that the nearest campsite was 25km away, and that there were only three hotels in the town and that they were fully booked. I happened to have arrived in the middle of the world equestrian games, so the town was heaving with horsey people. I set ...

Hop starting with Maastricht... welcome!

... walk in over the city wall until we found a supermarket. We stoped for an improvised pick-nick in a city park near the bastion and afterwards we came back and Sander arrived later with a friends so we could all cook and eat together. We made up a weird spaghetti but it has been swallowed anyway! I liked Maastricht and I hope the rest of the trip will go as fine. I would have loved to download pictures but the msn is doing dumb and doesnt show a place to upload photos - c'est con!

... small cursory road sign confirmed we had crossed into Belgium. It was an absolute pleasure to ride along the flat bike lanes attached to each and every road, a far cry from the stress and angst of riding alongside vehicle traffic in Australia, and we kept going for a good 25km or so to the town of Genk.

Genk itself was a fairly non-descript place, but when in a local supermarket we were each able to ...
